The Iowa Sheep and Wool Festival in Adel is less than a month away! The Des Moines Knitting Guild will once again be at the Sheep Festival.
We would like to invite everyone to stop by and see what we do as well as pick up a Ravelry button, while supplies last. We will have sharpies so you can write your Ravelry name on the button. As your walking around the festival you will be able to identify your fellow Ravelry members.
We will also be displaying some of our members hand knit items with pattern names and the yarn they used. This is a great way to be inspired and gather ideas for your own knitted projects.
If you purchase some hanks of yarn at the market, bring them to us and we will be happy to wind them into balls for you. We will have a yarn swift and ball winder set up. Save time, let us do the winding for you so you have more time for knitting!
We will also have an area to sit, knit, and relax and meet fellow knitters.
You can find us at the festival starting at 9am on both days (Saturday and Sunday). We will be in a covered building and will have signs posted so you can find us. Hope to see you there!
Happy Knitting!

The June meeting will be held at Pearson Park in West Des Moines starting at 6:30pm instead of 7pm. Bring your favorite dish to share and a place setting.
Got Yarn?
The guild's garage sale will be held during the June meeting. Now is the time to do some "spring cleaning" and find any knitting books or yarn you feel you no longer need. Also coming up on June 12th and 13th is the Iowa Sheep & Wool Festival. The guild will be helping out at the Sheep Festival again this year. More details to come soon...
Directions to Pearson Park Shelter in West Des Moines - The address is 1298 19th Street, West Des Moines. You can get to it off of Ashworth by turning North onto 19th Street.
Bring your knitting and come knit with us. Vistors are always welcome!

Yarn, Yarn, and more Yarn!!!

Thanks to Amy and Marsha the owners of Heartland Fiber Co. in Winterset (http://www.heartlandfiber.com/) for speaking at our March meeting. They hauled a nice selection of yarn from their store to the meeting and we all left with a nice purchase of yarn. Now that the weather is better I would highly recommend you take a trip to Winterset and visit them in their new location.

Knitting Getaway!! - February 20th, 2010
Knit Day!! - Saturday February 20th 10am to ?
Are you getting sick of snow and winter? If so come join us at the Des Moines Knitting Guild’s Knit Day on February 20th. Lots of fun, food and knitting. Even a chance to learn something new in one of the workshops.
Location will be the basement of the Grace Methodist Church - 3700 Cottage Grove in Des Moines. There is a lot of room so invite your friends.
You are welcome to come and go at anytime. The day will be potluck so bring a favorite dish to share. Coffee will be provided by the Guild.
The fee is $10 to cover the cost of the room. There will be drawings for door prizes throughout the day.
Ellen will be presenting the Japanese Baby Blanket with the star pattern. This is for anyone who missed one of her classes in January. Bring a size 7 to 9 needle. The guild has lots of yarn you can use (including a few pound skeins).
Vicky will be presenting the Helix Hat. Knitters should have 3 colors of worsted weight yarn yarn. They should cast on stitches on a 16-inch needle or longer if you use magic loop method(sz 7 or 8 needle) and knit in the round for about 1-1/2 inches in one color of the yarn. The number of stitches should be divisible by 3………for an adult in worsted weight, I would suggest 81, 90 or 99 stitches. Child’s 72 or 75 or 78.
Pat is bringing her wheel to demonstrate how to spin yarn. There is plenty of room in the church basement so if anyone has a wheel feel free to bring it.
Anyone having a problem with a pattern or a project there will be other knitters attending to offer help or ideas
Vistors are always welcome and you do not need to be a member of the guild to attend. Hope to see you there!
